About
NY2LON (New York 2 London) is a response to the lag time of discovering new music from across the ocean.
NY2LON is a new movement that was conceived and developed to introduce artists from the UK to US music fans and vice versa. But we aren't limited by continents. NY2LON has grown into an international brand that brings bands together from all over the world.
NY2LON is a reaction to the stale showcases in which a band is flown across the Atlantic to play only to A&R people, all with their arms crossed and standing 25 feet from the stage.
The ambition of NY2LON is to give new bands the best possible introduction by grouping a diverse range of our favorite new bands together and putting them in the unique position to play to the right audience at the right time in the right venue.
+1 and The Barfly started NY2LON to accomplish this goal, putting our favorite new bands on stage in front of influential and appreciative music audiences at select music festival shows and special club nights.
The launch of NY2LON in Austin, Texas became one of the toasts of SXSW 2005. The lineup at the Fader House featured artists like The Longcut, 22-20s and the The Hard-Fi, special guests Ash and Graham Coxon, and DJ sets by The Kaiser Chiefs and Paul Epworth.
The New York launch of NY2LON took place in May 2005. It was a sold out event at the Bowery Ballroom featuring The Ordinary Boys and Amusement Parks on Fire with secret special guest
stellastarr* playing a set as 'The Ligers', and a DJ set by London's infamous Queens of Noize.
NY2LON at SXSW 2006 was also a smashing success. We fought the weather to bring soggy but happy fans and industry folks another sold out event with music from Two Gallants, Editors, The Kooks, Voxtrot, Tapes N Tapes, Boy Kill Boy, The Morning After Girls, The Heights, and special guests The Charlatans.
We brought NY2LON to Brooklyn during CMJ in 2006. At a beyond-sold out Northsix in Williamsburg, our friends (new and old) were pleased to find a CMJ party that was in fact a party and not a showcase. Fans were treated to standout performances by Silversun Pickups, The Little Ones, Oh No! Oh My!, Illinois, The Phoenix Foundation and The Heights. We all guzzled cold beer, frolicked, and listened until morning forced us vampires back to our coffins.
www.NY2LON.com was launched in February 2006 with a focus on building a blog-based community with the ability to offer daily insights on what new bands people are talking about from
both sides of the ocean, as well as commentary on the scenes surrounding that music.
+1 and The Barfly put together a team of sponsors and promoters for each event consisting of one main-title sponsor and several ancillary sponsors. Each NY2LON event has a unique international media presence (both in print and on the blogs) bringing exposure to the event, the sponsors and the bands that are involved in the event.
