The Brobecks
NY2LON Featured Artist Elaine from Towson, MD

The Brobecks are a 4 piece musical outfit from Salt Lake City, Utah. Home of polygamy and white people (what, all I know about Utah I learned from Big Love HBO on demand).... Their music is anything but what you'd expect from middle America. They write big-city, appeal to the masses-without losing the cool- pop hits. Founded in 2004, with the current line-up only in place since 2005, the Brobecks already sound like an experienced team of songwriters. Key tracks on their recently released "Goodnight and Have a Pleasant Tomorrow" include Goodnight Socialite, a more accessible, rock take on burlesque circus music like the Dresden Dolls, and I'll break your arm, a dark love song ("look at me wrong, it could be your last mistake...d-d-d-d don't break my heart now, it could be your left arm I break") that is probably the best song Phantom Planet never wrote. Heartbreak or Death, ends the album showcasing sometimes singer (alternating vocals with Michael Gross) Dallon Weekes' impressive vocals. West of California and at least 5 more songs off of this album will be featured in a major movie or television show by 2007, I bet you one million dollars, because they are that good. Jumping across musical genres from song to song but maintaining a identifiably Brobecks sound throughout is what really sets these guys apart from many bands their senior. I hope for a full US tour soon but in the meantime, you can visit The Brobecks online for info on a few west coast dates in June and a link to buy their album.
