MAXIM Reviews Black Crowes CD Before Listening To It...
Probably The Best Review It's Gonna Get
Me at NY2LON Headquarters

Let's face it, this must happen all the time.

For those of you who have not heard, The Black Crowes' upcoming album, Warpaint, was given 2.5 stars out of 5, by Maxim Magazine. The only problem, according to the Black Crowes website, is that there is no way anyone at the magazine could have heard the album, because preview copies had not even been made available. Chances are, they heard one song (the single had been made available) and projected a review for the rest, which explains why, when asked, the magazine came up with: it was an "educated guess preview." Nice. "No comment... I mean... Sorry, I guess." would have been better.

Don't get me wrong. There's no way the new Black Crowes album is going to be good. And this incident probably has every shitty band who's ever gotten a terrible review from the mag chomping at the bit. Not to mention that the Black Crowes have always had an infuriating sense of entitlement, and now it's bigger... and in this case entirely justified.

So, to prevent a shitty band uprising, and to curb this Black Crowes crusade / press train, if I ran Maxim, here's how I would handle this.

1. Fire some people
2. Agree to re-review the Black Crowes album.
3. Take a star away.
4. Put CORRECTION: Black Crowes get 1.5 stars on the goddamn cover of next month's issue.
